Aston Villa has accepted a 117 million-pound ($157.4 million) bid from Premier League rival Chelsea for England midfielder Morgan Rogers, Britain's Press Association reported Saturday.
The proposed transfer would make the 23-year-old the next England midfielder to move for more than $150 million. It would also eclipse the fee Manchester City is paying Nottingham Forest for Elliot Anderson, which had been set to establish a record sum for an English player.
Rogers is due to return from the World Cup before undergoing a medical in London on Monday, according to PA and other British media. He is expected to sign a six-year contract at Stamford Bridge if the move is completed.
The midfielder played an instrumental role as Villa secured a top-four Premier League finish and won the Europa League last season. His departure would remove another important player from the squad after Villa sold Youri Tielemans to Manchester United this week.
For Chelsea, Rogers would become the biggest signing of the summer under new manager Xabi Alonso. The reported agreement would bring one of Villa's leading players to a Premier League rival in a deal valued at more than $157 million.
Rogers joined Aston Villa from Middlesbrough in February 2024 in a transfer worth up to 15 million pounds. Villa has since moved to strengthen its squad, signing Switzerland's World Cup breakout star Johan Manzambi on Friday.
