Angel Reese had 15 points, 17 rebounds and a career-high 11 offensive rebounds as the Atlanta Dream beat the Toronto Tempo 102-77 in a WNBA regular-season game Sunday at Coca-Cola Coliseum in Toronto.
The ESPN/AP recap said Reese finished one offensive rebound short of both the WNBA single-game record and the Atlanta franchise mark. The result moved the Dream to 9-4, while the Tempo dropped to 7-7.
Reese Controls The Glass In Toronto
Reese's work on the offensive boards gave Atlanta second chances even after a slow opening quarter. The Dream shot just 6-of-25 in the first period, including 1-of-12 from 3-point range, before taking control with a 34-14 second quarter.
By the end, Reese had her ninth double-double of the season and the 59th of her WNBA career through 76 games. ESPN/AP also noted that she has pulled down 17 rebounds in three of her past four games.
The 11 offensive rebounds put her within one of the league record shared by Sancho Lyttle, Glory Johnson, Nneka Ogwumike and Cheryl Ford. Lyttle also owns the Dream franchise mark.
Gray And Howard Turn Atlanta's Run Into A Rout
Allisha Gray added 26 points and seven assists for Atlanta, while Rhyne Howard had 24 points and three blocks. Rookie second-round pick Isobel Borlase scored a career-high 17 points on 5-of-6 shooting.
Gray made five 3-pointers and moved past Angel McCoughtry for third in Dream history with 235 career 3s, according to the recap. Howard, already Atlanta's franchise leader from behind the arc, made four more to reach 408.
Toronto got 17 points from Isabelle Harrison before she was ejected in the third quarter after a flagrant foul 2 on Reese. Julie Allemand added 13 points, six assists, two steals and two blocks for the Tempo.
Dream Stay Close In The East
The win kept Atlanta half a game behind the New York Liberty in the Eastern Conference standings listed on ESPN's game page. The Dream's next game is Thursday at Indiana, while Toronto visits the Fever on Tuesday.
Atlanta did not need the result to look tidy. Reese's offensive rebounding made the miss count as the beginning of another possession often enough for the Dream to turn one bad quarter into a 25-point road win.
