Bayern Munich started 2025 with a commanding 8-1 victory over Wolfsburg, extending their lead to 11 points at the top of the Bundesliga. The rout included six second-half goals.
Michael Olise scored twice, while Harry Kane, Luis Díaz, Raphael Guerreiro, and Leon Goretzka each found the net. Wolfsburg contributed two own goals.
Dominant Display Leaves Bayern Firmly on Course
In only the 16th game of the 34-game season, Bayern delivered a display of dominance that puts them firmly on course to defend their title.
Bayern coach Vincent Kompany praised his team's relentless approach: "It's these moments where it's five, six, 7-1, and they keep running, they keep pressing and keep trying to score goals. I have to say, I like that."
Brief Wolfsburg Threat
Wolfsburg's only meaningful threat came in the 13th minute when Dzenan Pejcinovic scored to level the match at 1-1 after right back Konrad Laimer missed an interception.
Kane also suffered a brief injury scare in the first half when defender Moritz Janz caught him on the ankle, but he returned to action quickly.
Record-Breaking Season
It was Bayern's biggest margin of victory since Kompany took over ahead of the 2024-25 season. Bayern has scored 63 goals in 16 league games—nearly four per game—while conceding only 12.
The club hasn't lost a Bundesliga game since March and remains the only unbeaten team in Europe's five biggest leagues.
Rivals Stumble
Bayern's closest rivals all struggled this weekend:
- Borussia Dortmund drew 3-3 with Eintracht Frankfurt
- Bayer Leverkusen lost 4-1 to Stuttgart
- Leipzig's game was postponed due to snow
Wolfsburg remains 14th, three points above the relegation zone.
