BRIGHTON, England — James Milner called time on his career Monday, ending a 658-appearance Premier League run that places him among the English game's most durable competitors.
"I could never have dreamed of the journey I've been on," he wrote on social media. "I've been fortunate enough to experience some unforgettable moments, from fighting for survival to winning trophies, playing in Europe, and representing my country."
The record does not need much decoration; it already does the talking.
The Numbers That Last
Miller began his career at 16 with his boyhood club Leeds and became the Premier League's youngest goal-scorer at the time. He leaves the league with three Premier League titles, the Champions League, two FA Cups, two League Cups and the Club World Cup. For England, he earned 61 caps across two European Championships and two World Cups.
The longevity itself was notable — few players manage that many top-flight appearances while remaining useful across multiple clubs and systems. "To those who supported me every step of the way, your encouragement meant more than you'll ever know," Milner said. "And to those who gave me grief along the way, thank you too — you all played your part in making the journey memorable."
