PARIS — Paris Saint-Germain could wrap up the Ligue 1 title as early as this weekend, provided nearest rivals Lens slip up against already-relegated Nantes on Friday.
PSG hold a six-point lead over Lens with three matches remaining for both clubs. The decisive showdown between the two sits scheduled for next week in Lens, though that fixture was moved from April 11 specifically to give PSG clearer breathing room ahead of their Champions League campaign.
The matchup already has enough history; the job is to keep the reading list shorter than the tension.
That Champions League gamble has already paid off — PSG reached the final by dumping Bayern Munich out on Wednesday.
The battle for Europe
The race for third place and its automatic Champions League berth has condensed into a two-horse contest between Lyon and Lille, separated by just two points.
Lyon travel to mid-table Toulouse with forwards Endrick, Afonso Moreira and Roman Yaremchuk all sharp. Fourth-placed Lille face a trickier test at Monaco, who sit sixth and protect their home ground firmly.
Rennes host Paris FC with faint hopes of snatching third still alive — they need both Lyon and Lille to stumble. Paris FC have been revived under coach Antoine Kombouaré, losing just once in nine games to climb safely clear of relegation trouble.
The messy middle and murky bottom
Marseille's troubled season has fermented into a fractured dressing room heading into their trip to Le Havre. Coach Habib Beye has doubled training sessions without results, and a fifth defeat in seven games would deepen the crisis further.
At the foot of the table, Auxerre host Nice in a clash where the hosts can leapfrog into 15th place with a win. Both clubs hover dangerously close to the relegation-promotion playoff spot.
Injury and suspension picture
Lens will be without five regulars for their Friday test. Wingers Florian Thauvin and Allan Saint-Maximin get rested as a precaution, while midfielder Mamadou Sangaré, right back Saud Abdulhamid and midfielder Adrien Thomasson are suspended.
PSG right back Achraf Hakimi remains out with a hamstring problem. Marseille duo Nayef Aguerd (groin) and Hamed Traoré (thigh) will miss the rest of the season.
Across the women's game, Bordeaux fans reported abusive body searches by security before a fourth-tier match at Bayonne. The Ultramarines supporters group called the acts "humiliating and degrading" and said the incidents have been reported to Her Game Too, an organization protecting female fans in football.
