PARIS — PSG's grip on the Ligue 1 title loosened further on Saturday, but not by much. The champions drew 2-2 at home with Lorient, and their closest rivals Lens failed to capitalize, settling for a 1-1 result at Nice.
The gap between PSG and Lens remains six points with three rounds left. Lens will host PSG on May 13 in what could prove to be the defining match of the season.
The title of the job changes quickly; the explanation usually takes a little longer to catch up.
A quiet evening in Paris
Allan Saint-Maximin gave Lens the lead against his former club in the 61st minute, latching onto Adrien Thomasson's pass and finishing calmly. But the advantage lasted barely longer than a halftime speech. Lens defender Saud Abdulhamid received his marching orders in the 81st minute, and Nice equalized moments later when Ali Abdi turned in Sofiane Diop's deflected free kick.
For PSG, teenage forward Ibrahim Mbaye opened the scoring in the sixth minute when goalkeeper Yvon Mvogo fumbled a cross straight onto him. Lorient equalized through Pablo Pagis six minutes later, cashing in on poor defending. Warren Zaïre-Emery restored PSG's lead in the 62nd minute with a deflected strike from 20 meters.
Then came the debut. Academy striker Pierre Mounguangue entered for his first-team appearance and immediately gave the ball away with a back pass. Benin forward Aiyegun Tosin intercepted, raced clear, and finished low in the 77th minute.
That sort of sequence is why coaches sometimes prefer experience off the bench.
Marseille's week got worse
Elsewhere, Marseille's turbulent season took another hit with a 3-0 loss at Nantes. The defeat leaves them seventh in the table, their Champions League hopes fading fast with only the top three guaranteed entry.
Monaco moved ahead of them by beating last-place Metz 2-1. American forward Folarin Balogun and former Barcelona prodigy Ansu Fati found the net for the principality club.
The day offered a small curiosity: Paul Pogba started for Monaco, marking his first league appearance since 2023. He lasted an hour before being replaced.
