PSG held to 2-2 draw by Lorient, stays six points clear of Lens

Paris Saint‑Germain were pegged back to a 2‑2 draw at home by Lorient on Saturday, a result that left the defending champions six points ahead of Lens with three rounds left in Ligue 1.

Swinging scoreline in Paris

Ibrahim Mbaye put PSG ahead in the sixth minute after Lorient goalkeeper Yvon Mvogo fumbled a cross into his path. Pablo Pagis struck a neat volley past 19‑year‑old backup goalkeeper Renato Marin to level matters six minutes later. Warren Zaïre‑Emery restored the lead in the 62nd minute, the ball deflecting off a defender from roughly 20 metres, but substitute Aiyegun Tosin pounced on a loose ball and leveled the scores in the 77th.

The title of the job changes quickly; the explanation usually takes a little longer to catch up.

The point felt like a salvage: the lead changed hands twice, and PSG finished grateful for a draw rather than a win.

Lens cannot close the gap

Later that day Lens were held to a 1‑1 draw at Nice. Allan Saint‑Maximin finished after collecting Adrien Thomasson’s through‑ball in the 61st minute to put the visitors ahead. Defender Saud Abdulhamid received a red card in the 81st minute, and Nice immediately equalised when Ali Abdi turned in Sofiane Diop’s deflected free kick.

If Lens had taken all three points they would have moved within four points of PSG, with a meeting scheduled for May 13. Instead the margin stays at six.

Rested players and a debut

Coach Luis Enrique had rotated his side after the mid‑week Champions League semi‑final win over Bayern Munich (5‑4), giving a rest to goalkeeper Matvei Safonov, midfielder Vitinha and defender Nuno Mendes. Ousmane Dembélé, João Neves and Warren Zaïre‑Emery were named among the substitutes.

Academy striker Pierre Mounguengue made his first‑team debut, but his errant back pass was intercepted by Tosin, leading directly to Lorient’s late equaliser.

Marseille’s slide deepens

Marseille lost 3‑0 at Nantes, a fourth defeat in six games that has practically eliminated them from the top‑three race. Monaco beat relegation‑bound Metz 2‑1, climbing above Marseille in the standings.

Paul Pogba was handed his first Ligue 1 start since 2023 with Juventus, playing an hour before being replaced. Forward Folarin Balogun and former Barcelona prodigy Ansu Fati supplied Monaco’s goals.

For Nantes, Ignatius Ganago, former Marseille winger Rémy Cabella and Matthis Abline found the net.
