TOULOUSE, France (AP) — Carles Martínez Novell will step away from Toulouse when the Ligue 1 season closes. The club announced the decision Wednesday, with the team sitting 10th in the standings and three matches still to play.
The Spanish coach arrived initially as an assistant, helped Toulouse win the French Cup in 2023, and was promoted to head coach the following season.
"A big thank you as well to the supporters for the ir constant support, and to the city for its warm welcome from day one," he said. "I leave with incredible memories that will stay with me forever. Stand up. Always."
His departure comes with the team safely mid-table—neither fighting for European qualification nor facing relegation trouble. That quiet middle ground is where most coaching tenures quietly end.
The club has not yet announced a successor.
