Back on the pitch
Moïse Bombito played his first 30 minutes for Canada's men's national team since suffering a broken tibia in October, starting in the friendly against Uzbekistan at Edmonton's Commonwealth Stadium on Monday. Canada won 2-0.
The 26-year-old defender, who plays club football for Nice in Ligue 1, walked off the pitch at halftime walking what one reporter described as "gingerly," with ice on his left leg. Trainers accompanied him to the locker room. The same leg he broke five months ago.
The record does not need much decoration; it already does the talking.
Planned outcome
Team officials said the re was no new injury. The substitution was "by design," the y explained, citing the rainy and wet playing conditions in Edmonton. That phrasing served its purpose: it closed the questions with out opening any new ones.
Bombito slipped early in the match while defending an Uzbekistan breakaway, the n cleared the ball with a sliding effort minutes later. After the final whistle, he was seen walking with his teammates with no noticeable limp and no ice on his leg. He told reporters he had "30 minutes in him" for the game and felt "sore."
Roster uncertainty
The Montreal native has 19 caps for Canada since 2023. He is one of several question marks ahead of the World Cup. Alphonso Davies was observed jogging around the pitch before the match, but his availability for the opener against Bosnia and Herzegovina on June 12 remains unclear. Marcelo Flores will miss the tournament after suffering a ruptured ACL over the weekend.
Canada plays Ireland in Montreal on Friday in its final pre-World Cup friendly.
