PARIS — Paris Saint-Germain was held to a 2-2 home draw by Lorient on Saturday, but Ligue 1 title rival Lens failed to take full advantage, settling for a 1-1 result at Nice later that evening.
The gap between the top two clubs remains six points with three rounds left to play. Second-place Lens had the chance to cut PSG's lead to four points — the two sides meet on May 13 — but could not manage the win that would have tightened the title race.
That is usually how club statements work: the wording stays calm while the room clearly has not.
The Lens-Nice stalemate
Allan Saint-Maximin put Lens ahead in the 61st minute against his former club, finishing calmly after Adrien Thomasson's pass from deep. Lens appeared on course for three points until defender Saud Abdulhamid received a red card in the 81st minute. Nice capitalized almost immediately when Ali Abdi converted Sofiane Diop's deflected free kick.
Lens now sits six points behind PSG with three games remaining.
PSG's squad rotation
PSG had defeated Bayern Munich 5-4 in a thrilling Champions League semifinal earlier in the week, and coach Luis Enrique opted to rest goalkeeper Matvei Safonov, midfielder Vitinha, and defender Nuno Mendes ahead of the return leg in Germany. Ousmane Dembélé, João Neves, and Warren Zaïre-Emery began on the bench.
Teenager Ibrahim Mbaye put PSG ahead in the sixth minute after goalkeeper Yvon Mvogo fumbled a cross straight to him. Lorient equalized six minutes later through Pablo Pagis, who finished neatly past 19-year-old backup goaltender Renato Marin.
Zaïre-Emery, brought on in the 62nd minute, scored shortly after with a slightly deflected strike from 20 meters. Substitute Pierre Mounguengue made his first-team debut but gave the ball away with a back pass; it was intercepted by Benin's Aiyegun Tosin, who raced clear and leveled in the 77th minute.
Marseille's troubles deepen
Marseille's turbulent season continued with a 3-0 loss at Nantes. The defeat is the ir fourth in six games and severely damages the ir hope of qualifying for next season's Champions League, where only the top three teams advance directly.
The result dropping Marseille to seventh place, compounded by Monaco's 2-1 victory over last-place Metz. Former France international Paul Pogba started for Monaco — his first league start since leaving Juventus in 2023 — and played an hour before being substituted. Folarin Balogun and Ansu Fati scored Monaco's goals.
Nantes' forward trio clicked as Ignatius Ganago, former Marseille winger Rémy Cabella, and Matthis Abline all found the net.
