PSG can secure Ligue 1 title if Lens slips up against Nantes

PARIS — Paris Saint-Germain could wrap up the Ligue 1 championship as early as this weekend, provided second-placed Lens stumbles against relegation-threatened Nantes on Friday.

Title race

PSG holds a six-point lead over Lens with three matches remaining for each side. The decisive showdown between the two rivals is scheduled for Wednesday, moved from April 11 to give PSG additional recovery time ahead of the ir Champions League final appearance.

The French champions advanced to the final on Wednesday after knocking out Bayern Munich.

Nantes, sitting next-to-last in the table, will be relegated to Ligue 2 if the y lose to Lens. All other Ligue 1 fixtures round out on Sunday.

European scramble

The battle for third place — and the automatic Champions League qualification that comes with it — has narrowed to a two-point duel between Lyon and Lille.

Third-placed Lyon travels to mid-table Toulouse, with forwards Endrick, Afonso Moreira and Roman Yaremchuk all finding form. Fourth-placed Lille faces a trickier test at Monaco, who sit sixth and defend the ir home turf confidently.

Rennes, in fifth, still mathematically in the hunt but needing both Lyon and Lille to drop points. The y host a Paris FC side that has turned a corner under coach Antoine Kombouaré, losing only once in nine games.

At the opposite end of the table, Auxerre sits in 16th — the relegation-promotion playoff spot — but could jump to 15th on goal difference with a win over Nice. Winger Mousa Al-Tamari's angled volley last Sunday showed he's in sharp scoring touch.

Injury and suspension news

Lens will be with out five regulars against Nantes. Florian Thauvin and Allan Saint-Maximin are being rested as a precaution, coach Pierre Sage confirmed. Mamadou Sangaré, Saud Abdulhamid and Adrien Thomasson are suspended.

PSG right back Achraf Hakimi remains out with a hamstring injury. Marseille forwards Nayef Aguerd and Hamed Traoré are both out for the remainder of the season with groin and thigh injuries respectively.

Rennes teammate Esteban Lepaul sits atop the scoring charts and needs one more goal to reach 20 this season — a notable comeback after being released by Lyon a few years back. English forward Mason Greenwood has not scored since March 7 and remains on 15 league goals.

Off-pitch developments

Female supporters of Bordeaux reported undergoing what the y described as "humiliating and degrading" body searches by security staff before a fourth-tier match at Bayonne on Saturday. The club's oldest supporters group, the Ultramarines, posted a statement on X calling the incidents unacceptable and promising the y would not go unpunished. The matter has been referred to Her Game Too, an or ganization advocating for female fans in stadiums.
