Bayern Munich lifts Bundesliga trophy after record 122-goal season capped by Kane's fourth hat

What Happened

Bayern Munich finally got its hands on the Bundesliga trophy on Saturday, completing a season that saw the club rewrite the German record books.

Harry Kane's-fourth hat trick of the campaign lifted his tally to 36 goals—five short of Robert Lewandowski's league record set in 2020-21—as Bayern dispatched Cologne 5-1 in the final round. Tom Bischof and Nicolas Jackson also found the net.

The Bavarian side finished with 122 goals, comfortably eclipsing the previous Bundesliga high of 101 struck by the 1971-72 Bayern team featuring Franz Beckenbauer and Gerd Müller. Leon Goretzka, departing after eight season s, broke the record with five rounds remaining.

"We have a great group, a great togetherness, and to celebrate success with that is awesome," Bayern sporting director Max Eberl said after his second league title with the club.

Why It Matters

With the exception of Bayer Leverkusen's unbeaten domestic run in 2024, Bayern has won every Bundesliga since Borussia Dortmund claimed consecutive titles in 2012.

Michael Olise, who contributed 15 goals and 22 assists across 32 appearances, was named Bundesliga player of the season. The French winger's performance ensured Saturday doubled as a celebration of individual breakthrough alongside collective triumph.

Vincent Kompany's side wrapped up the title with four rounds to spare, though the players had to wait until Saturday before lifting the "salatbowl" trophy. Captain Manuel Neuer, who signed a one-year extension on Friday, passed the silverware to Goretzka for the ceremonial hoist, triggering confetti cascades and the inevitable Queen anthem.

The subsequent beer showers saw defender Dayot Upamecano douse Kompany before the soaked coach retreated to join family members on the touchline.

What Comes Next

"I'd say today it's OK to celebrate a little,"midfielder Joshua Kimmich said."The n we have a week and the n we'll be fully focused on the cup final."

Bayern faces defending champion Stuttgart in the German Cup final at Berlin's Olympiastadion next Saturday.
