Josh Jacobs arrest update: Packers RB released from jail, no charges filed after domestic violence

Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs was arrested Wednesday and released from custody without any charges being filed, according to his attorneys.

Jacobs was taken into custody on Tuesday morning at the Brown County Jail in Wisconsin following an incident in Hobart-Lawrence. Authorities responded to a disturbance call around 8:37 a.m. on May 23, according to a police department release.

The prosecution office revealed that Jacobs faced multiple accusations including battery, criminal damage to property, disorderly conduct, strangulation and suffocation, as well as victim intimidation — all related to domestic abuse allegations.

After reviewing the evidence, the Brown County District Attorney's Office announced it is not prepared to make a formal charging decision at this time. Prosecutors have requested additional investigation, noting that while probable cause existed for the arrest, a higher standard applies for issuing criminal charges.

"Our office has requested additional investigation, as there is reason to believe that additional evidence may exist that would impact whether criminal charges are appropriate," the DA's office stated.

Jacobs' legal team — attorneys David Chesnoff, Richard Schonfeld and Clarence Duhac — released a statement celebrating his release: "We are extremely pleased that Josh has been released from custody and that no criminal charges have been filed against him."

Prior to his arrest, Jacobs maintained his innocence through his attorneys, stating: "Josh vehemently denies the allegations, and this matter is in the early stages of investigation."

Packers head coach Matt LaFleur addressed the situation briefly at team OTAs, deferring to the organization's official statement.

"We are aware of the matter involving Josh Jacobs. As it is an ongoing legal situation, we will withhold further comment," LaFleur said.

The NFL issued a brief statement saying it is in contact with the team regarding the matter.

Jacobs is heading into his third season with the Packers in 2026 after winning the NFL's rushing title with the Las Vegas Raiders. Last season, he recorded 929 yards and 13 touchdowns, narrowly missing the 1,000-yard threshold due to missing two games.

Throughout his seven-year NFL career, Jacobs has earned three Pro Bowl selections and a first-team All-Pro honor in 2022.
