Inter Milan captures 21st Serie

Inter Milan claimed their 21st Serie A title on Sunday, defeating Parma 2-0 at San Siro to clinch the championship with three rounds remaining.

Marcus Thuram opened the scoring shortly before halftime, curling a composed finish beyond Parma goalkeeper Zion Suzuki. Midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan, 37, added a second goal in the 80th minute, converting a pass from Lautaro Martinez who had returned from an injury layoff as a substitute.

The victory moved Inter an unassailable 12 points clear of reigning champions Napoli. It marks Inter's third league title in six seasons, though the club had not secured the trophy in front of their home supporters at San Siro since 1989 — nearly four decades ago.

"Since I arrived at Inter, it's been a team that loves to stay together on and off the field, and that's our strength," Thuram said.

Cristian Chivu, in his first season as head coach after replacing Simone Inzaghi nearly a year ago, clinched the title against the club he guided last season. The former Inter defender was part of the squad that won a treble under Jose Mourinho in 2010.

Lautaro Martinez praised the new manager's impact: "He did so well bringing fresh energy and enthusiasm. After four great years with Simone, perhaps we needed a change of scenery. Chivu made sure everyone felt involved."

Inter will face Lazio in the Italian Cup final later this month. The domestic triumph contrasts with their Champions League exit this season against Norwegian side Bodø/Glimt.
