Bruno Fernandes broke the Premier League's single-season assist record as Manchester United signed off in style with a 3-0 win over Brighton at the Amex Stadium.
The Portuguese midfielder supplied the opening goal for Patrick Dorgu to claim sole possession of the record with his 21st assist of the campaign, moving clear of the previous mark jointly held by Kevin De Bruyne and Thierry Henry.
Bryan Mbeumo doubled United's lead shortly before halftime, converting from close range after good work by Dorgu.
Fernandes capped a remarkable individual season—by scoring the third early in the second period—before Michael Carrick's side comfortably saw out the victory.
Carrick's Winning Start
The result provided the perfect launchpad for Carrick's permanent reign, the former United midfielder securing victory in his first match since signing a two-year contract on Friday.
Carrick has now won 12 of his 17 Premier League games in charge, transforming United's fortunes following Ruben Amorim's departure.
Brilliant Season Ends on High Note
For Brighton, the defeat capped a frustrating finale to what has otherwise been a brilliant campaign.
The Seagulls finished eighth in the table and will feature in next season's Conference League—only the second time in the club's history they have qualified for European competition.
Brighton began the final day with a chance at a Europa League place but slip to eighth place below West Ham effectively ended those hopes.
Head coach Fabian Hurzeler introduced winger Yankuba Minteh at halftime in a bid to ignite a comeback, but any realistic hopes of a fightback were extinguished within three minutes of the restart when Fernandes struck.
Records Tumble
As well as claiming the assist crown, Fernandes also collected the Premier League Player of the Season award—just reward for a campaign that saw him dominate the creative charts throughout.
The victory saw United travel home in confident mood, though they ultimately fell just short of the second Europa League spot on the final day.
