Como Earns First Champions League Spot After Rising From Fourth Division to Serie A

Como capped a remarkable seven-year rise from the fourth division to Serie A's top four, securing a maiden Champions League berth in the club's 119-year history.

Cesc Fàbregas' side sealed fourth place on the final day, finishing ahead of AC Milan and Juventus after winning 4-1 at Cremonese while Milan fell 2-1 at home to Cagliari.

"When I arrived four years ago as a player we changed in a bar, today we're in the Champions League," Fabregas said. "We had massages in the back room of a bar, in a field… And today, less than four years later, we're going to play in the Champions League.

"It's a huge achievement. This is a squad full of kids—the 15 players who played the most are nearly all under 23. I think that's marvelous and a masterpiece from the whole squad."

Roma finished third after winning 2-0 at already-relegated Hellas Verona, two points above Como. Milan ended one point behind in fifth, with Juventus sixth after a 2-2 draw at Torino.

The club's Indonesian owners—tobacco billionaires Robert Budi Hartono and Michael Bambang Hartono—purchased Como in 2019 when it was playing in Serie D. They have transformed the lakeside club into a European competitor in just five years.

In other Serie A results, Inter Milan claimed the league title while Napoli finished second after Antonio Conte's last match—a 1-0 win over Udinese. Lecce beat Genoa 1-0 to secure survival, joining Verona, Pisa and Cremonese in relegation.
