Spurs Top Thunder in Game 7, Advance to Face Knicks in NBA Finals

at 10:55 pm ET · 4 min read

The NBA Finals matchup is finally set: Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs will take on Jalen Brunson and the New York Knicks in a highly anticipated showdown.

While the Knicks cruised past the Cleveland Cavaliers in four games to emerge from the East, the Spurs needed to go the distance to get past the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference Finals. They had to go on the road to close it out on Saturday in a decisive Game 7.

Wembanyama led the way with 22 points, and San Antonio had six players score in double figures in a 111-103 win. Two-time MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was forced to carry a heavy load for the Thunder.

Now the Spurs will move on to face a well-rested Knicks team that has won 11 straight games and will play for an NBA championship for the first time since 1999—which, coincidentally, also came against the Spurs.

The Finals tip on June 3 in San Antonio. And with the Thunder eliminated, there will be a new NBA champion crowned for the eighth consecutive season.
