Lecce Beats Pisa 2-1, Sending Both Pisa and Verona to Serie B Relegation

PISA, Italy — Lecce beat Pisa 2-1 on Friday, sealing relegation for both the Tuscan club and Verona to Serie B.

Pisa was promoted from Serie B just one year ago but endured a disastrous Serie A campaign, winning only two of 35 matches. The result confirmed their immediate return to the second tier.

The defeat also sealed Verona's fate. Despite holding a 19-point tally — one more than Pisa — Verona could not overtake Lecce, which sits fourth-to-last with 32 points.

Match Summary

Lameck Banda gave Pisa a 52nd-minute lead, putting the home side ahead. However, Mehdi Léris equalized just four minutes later.

Walid Cheddira completed the comeback in the 65th minute, scoring the winner for Lecce. The victory lifts Lecce four points above the relegation zone with three matches remaining.

Venezia Clinches Promotion

In Serie B, Venezia secured their promotion to the top flight after a 2-2 draw with Spezia.

Giovanni Stroppa's side now tops the table, one point ahead of Frosinone. Frosinone can join Venezia in Serie A with a win or draw against Mantova in their final match next Friday.
