Tottenham claim much-needed win at Wolves but remain in relegation

João Palhinha's 82nd-minute tap-in secured Tottenham a first Premier League win of 2026, as Spurs beat Wolves 1-0 at Molineux but remain in the relegation zone.

The Portugal midfielder slid in at the back post to convert from Richarlison's scuffed cross, giving Tottenham their first league success in 16 matches.

Injury setbacks

Spurs were hit by a double injury blow before halftime. Dominic Solanke went down holding the back of his left leg and was forced off, while Xavi Simons also suffered a collision with Hugo Bueno.

Simons initially returned to his feet but collapsed after a run down the touchline and required a stretcher. Yves Bissouma also came close to joining the injury list but was able to start the second half.

Relegation battle

The victory temporarily lifted Tottenham out of the bottom three, but a late winner for West Ham against Everton meant Spurs finished the day just two points from safety with four games remaining.

Wolves' relegation was confirmed on Monday night, giving them little to play for at Molineux.

Match highlights

Spurs started strongly at Molineux, with Solanke having half-hearted penalty appeals waved away after a slight push by Hugo Bueno.

Randal Kolo Muani fired wide early on, while Pedro Porro sent an effort astray as Tottenham's momentum halted.

Xavi should have given Spurs the lead in the 51st minute after cutting inside, but Matt Doherty got back enough to force him to blaze over from eight yards.

With West Ham ahead at home to Everton, Spurs were four points from safety before Palhinha's winner arrived.

Late drama saw Antonín Kinsky make a stunning one-handed save from a João Gomes free-kick in stoppage time to secure the three points.
