Bruno Fernandes broke the Premier League's single-season assist record with his 21st helper as Manchester United signed off Michael Carrick's appointment as permanent manager in style, beating Brighton 3-0 at the Amex Stadium.
Record-Breaking Display
The United captain set up Patrick Dorgu's opening goal to move clear of Kevin De Bruyne and Thierry Henry'sprevious record of 20 assists. Bryan Mbeumo doubled the lead on the stroke of halftime before Fernandes capped a remarkable individual displayslotting the third early in the second half.
"I'm delighted for Bruno," said Carrick. "To achieve this record while helping the team win shows exactly whathe's about. He's been exceptional all season."
Brighton's Disappointment
Brighton began the final day with a chance at Europa League qualification but finished eighth in the Premier League table, settling for a place in the UEFAEuropa Conference League – their first European qualification in the club's history.
The Seagulls offered little response as United controlled the contest. Goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen made smart stops to deny Dorgu a double, while substitute Solly March tested Senne Lammens late on.
Carrick's Championship Push
Carrick, who signed a two-year contract on Friday, has led United to 12 wins from 17 top-flight matches since taking temporary charge. The former Red Devils midfielder now turns his attention to strengthening his squad for Champions League football.
"We wanted to finish strongly for the fans and ourselves," Carrick added. "Now we build for next season."
