PISA, Italy (AP) — Lecce beat Pisa 2-1 on Friday, securing promotion for Venezia from Serie B while condemning both Pisa and Verona to relegation.
Pisa Returned to Serie B
Pisa was relegated back to Serie B after a disappointing season in Italy's top flight. The club won only two of 35 games this term.
Match Details: Lameck Banda gave Pisa a 52nd-minute lead before Mehdi Léris equalized just four minutes later. Walid Cheddira sealed the win for Lecce in the 65th minute.
Verona Also Relegated
The result condemned Verona to relegation despite finishing one point ahead of Pisa. Verona has 19 points compared to Lecce's 32.
Lecce now sits four points above the drop zone with three matches remaining in the season.
Venezia Secures Promotion
Venezia clinched promotion from Serie B following a 2-2 draw with Spezia. Giovanni Stroppa's side now leads the table, one point ahead of Frosinone.
Frosinone can still join Venezia in Serie A if the club secures a win or draw against Mantova in their final match next Friday.
