Carl Edwards Jr. Signs Minor-League Deal with Tigers
Edwards signed a minor-league contract with the Tigers on Friday, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports. Edwards elected free agency after being designated for assignment by the Mets, and he'll now aim to carve out a role for the Tigers organization.
The 34-year-old right-hander gave up just one earned run and struck out 11 batters in six innings with the Mets, though he's posted a 5.29 ERA and 1.47 WHIP in 17 frames in Triple-A.
Will Vest Receives Cortisone Injection
Vest (forearm) received a cortisone injection on Friday, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports. Vest landed on the injured list due to inflammation in his right forearm.
He's expected to resume throwing within the next several days, though it's unknown whether he'll be ready to return from the IL when eligible Thursday.
Jace Jung Optioned to Triple-A Toledo
The Tigers optioned Jung to Triple-A Toledo on Friday, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports. Jung was recalled from Triple-A on Wednesday but will head back to the minors after going 0-for-2 during his lone appearance against the Red Sox.
Zack Short re-signed with Detroit on a major-league contract Friday and will take Jung's place on the active roster.
