Martinez scores brace in return from injury as Inter Milan routs Roma 5-2

Lautaro Martinez returned from injury in spectacular fashion, scoring twice to help Inter Milan defeat Roma 5-2 at San Siro on Sunday.

The Argentine striker netted in the 2nd and 52nd minutes in his first appearance since February, ending Inter's four-match winless streak across all competitions.

Hakan Calhanoglu — fresh off helping Turkey qualify for the World Cup — Marcus Thuram and Nicolò Barella also found the net for Inter.

Gianluca Mancini scored a momentary equalizer for Roma before Lorenzo Pellegrini pulled one back late after the Giallorossi had gone four goals behind.

Inter, whose advantage was sliced from 10 to six points before the international break, now sit nine points ahead of city rival AC Milan and 10 points clear of defending champion Napoli.

Bologna prepares for Aston Villa

Bologna moved up to eighth in Serie A with a 2-1 win at relegation-threatened Cremonese.

Joao Mario and Jonathan Rowe scored early for Bologna before Federico Bonazzoli pulled one back late by converting a penalty.

Bologna hosts Aston Villa in the Europa League quarterfinals on Thursday.
