Fulham finished their season on a high note with a 2-0 Premier League victory over Newcastle at Craven Cottage. Issa Diop opened the scoring with a header from a free kick, before Tom Cairney capped off a remarkable campaign with a stunning second-half goal.
The win proved to be a fitting farewell – should it prove to be Marco Silva's final match in charge. Silva is due to meet with club hierarchy next week to decide whether to extend his five-year stay or depart.
Silva's Future in Doubt
Fulham have offered the manager a three-year contract extension, but Silva has repeatedly declined to commit himself either publicly or privately. Much could depend on whether Benfica make an offer for him to replace Jose Mourinho, who is bound for Real Madrid.
The Portuguese manager appears increasingly likely to have led Fulham for the last time.
Newcastle's Season Ends in Disappointment
Both teams had already seen their ambitions for the campaign frustrated. Newcastle's Champions League hopes effectively ended way back in February, when a run of one win in seven matches saw them slip out of contention.
Fulham's Missed Opportunity
For Fulham, the season held promise as recently as their final home game. Had they beaten Bournemouth on May 9, this victory over Newcastle would have been enough to finish sixth.
They were beaten 1-0 by one of their main rivals for Europe, and ultimately an inability to grind out results consistently has cost them. Since the turn of 2026, Fulham have won back-to-back league matches just once.
Whether Silva stays or goes, Fulham go into the summer with much to reflect upon – and regret.
