Kane Misses Penalty, Ends 24-Streak as Bayern Beats Wolfsburg

Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane saw his remarkable penalty conversion streak end at 24 after missing a spot kick for the first time in Saturday's 1-0 win over Wolfsburg.

Kane stepped up to the penalty spot in a goalless match after teammate Michael Olise was fouled by defender Konstantinos Koulierakis. The England captain appeared to slip slightly as he approached the ball, and his shot went wide of the right-hand post.

Bayern secured the victory thanks to a spectacular curling goal from Olise that struck the underside of the crossbar and bounced into the net. Wolfsburg's Mattias Svanberg hit the bar in the 89th minute with only the goalkeeper to beat.

Kane hadn't missed a penalty in the Bundesliga since joining Bayern in 2023, with 10 of his 24 scored this season alone. Across all competitions, Kane has failed to convert three penalties for Bayern this season—including a saved effort against third-division Wehen Wiesbaden in the German Cup and a crossbar strike against Union Saint-Gilloise in the Champions League.

Wolfsburg Faces Relegation Battle

Wolfsburg remained 16th and in danger of relegation ahead of their final regular-season game. The club hasn't played outside the top division since 1997.

American midfielder Kevin Paredes and Algerian striker Mohamed Amoura were absent "for disciplinary reasons," Wolfsburg said without providing further details.

The bottom three teams—Wolfsburg, St. Pauli, and Heidenheim—are battling to avoid the bottom two spots and relegation. Their only chance is finishing 16th and reaching a promotion-relegation playoff against a second-division team.

Wolfsburg visits 17th-placed St. Pauli next Saturday in the final round. Wolfsburg will be relegated with a loss but could survive with a draw. St. Pauli must win. Last-placed Heidenheim has two games remaining and could overtake both clubs but needs to avoid defeat against Cologne first.

Leipzig Secures Champions League Return

Leipzig clinched a Champions League spot for next season with a 2-1 win over St. Pauli, securing third place in the Bundesliga.

Leipzig led 2-0 with both goals from corners. Xaver Schlanger bundled in a loose ball just before halftime, and Willi Orban headed in shortly after the break.

St. Pauli pulled one back through Abdoulie Ceesay's 86th-minute goal—a long-range header assist by Jackson Irvine—but couldn't equalize.

It marks a significant improvement for Leipzig after placing seventh last season, its worst top-flight finish. St. Pauli remained 17th in the 18-team league following its ninth consecutive winless game.

Stuttgart Moves Toward Champions League

Deniz Undav's 19th league goal sealed a 3-1 comeback win for Stuttgart over Bayer Leverkusen, putting the club in strong position for a Champions League spot.

Leverkusen took an early lead through Aleix Garcia's goal just 34 seconds into the match. However, Ermedin Demirovic leveled for Stuttgart in the fifth minute and won a penalty that Maximilian Mittelstädt converted to give Stuttgart the lead before halftime.

Undav, the league's second-highest scorer behind Kane, added a third from Jamie Leweling's cross. Leverkusen remained sixth with only a slim chance of Champions League qualification.

Hoffenheim, Augsburg Claim Key Wins

Hoffenheim moved level on points with Stuttgart in fifth after a 1-0 win over Werder Bremen. The match turned in the fifth minute when Bremen's Yukinari Sugawara received a red card for a reckless studs-up challenge. Bazoumana Toure scored the only goal from a quickly taken corner.

Augsburgboosted its Conference League hopes with a 3-1 win over Borussia Moenchengladbach. The result lifted Augsburg to ninth in the standings.
