The Result Under The Result
Voting for the 2026 MLB All-Star Game began Wednesday, marking the start of fan-determined selections for baseball's 96th Midsummer Classic.
The annual showcase will take place Tuesday, July 14, at Philadelphia's Citizens Bank Park, home of the Phillies. As in recent years, fan voting will decide starting position players and designated hitters for both the American League and National League squads.
The list looks clean on paper; the hard part is everything that happens after it is printed.
The voting process unfolds across two distinct phases. In the current first phase, each team has nominated one player for each infield position and the designated hitter role, along with three candidates for outfield spots. Fans may cast their ballots online at MLB.com/vote, through individual team websites, or via the MLB App and MLB Ballpark App.
The Useful Context
This initial phase concludes at noon ET on June 25. Supporters may vote up to five times daily through web or mobile platforms, with an additional sixth vote available within the MLB Ballpark App.
Once the first phase closes, the candidate field narrows considerably—two contenders per infield position and DH, plus six outfielders per league. The leading vote-getter in each league automatically earns a starting roster spot.
The second phase begins at noon ET on June 29 and runs through noon ET on July 2. During this three-day window, fans may vote once daily for one finalist at each open infield position and DH, and for three outfielders—reduced to two if that league's first-phase leader was an outfielder. Vote totals reset for this phase, limiting supporters to four total votes across the period.
The Part Still Unclear
Fan-selected starting lineups will be revealed July 2, with complete 32-player rosters announced July 6. The remaining roster spots—23 reserves plus pitchers—will be filled through a combination of player ballots and commissioner selections. Every one of MLB's 30 teams must be represented at least once.
Starting pitchers will be chosen by the respective league managers: Dave Roberts of the Los Angeles Dodgers for the National League and John Schneider of the Toronto Blue Jays for the American League. Those skippers will also set their team's batting order.
All-Star week in Philadelphia extends beyond the main event. The HBCU Classic kicks off July 10, followed by the MLB Draft on July 11, the Futures Game on July 12, and the Home Run Derby on July 13.
