PISA, Italy — Lecce beat Pisa 2-1 on Friday, sending the Tuscan club straight back down to Serie B and condemning Verona to relegation as well.
Pisa was promoted from Serie B just one year ago but finishes with only two wins from 35 matches this season. Verona, sitting second-from-bottom, has 19 points — one more than Pisa — but cannot catch Lecce, which now sits fourth-to-last with 32 points.
Lameck Banda gave Pisa the lead in the 52nd minute, but Mehdi Léris equalized four minutes later. Walid Cheddira scored the winning goal in the 65th minute to lift Lecce four points above the relegation zone with three matches left to play.
Meanwhile, Venezia clinched promotion from Serie B by securing a 2-2 draw against Spezia. Giovanni Stroppa's men top the table, one point ahead of Frosinone, which can also seal promotion with a result against Mantova in their final match next Friday.
