Liverpool Scales Back Ticket Price Increases After Fan Protests

Liverpool has reversed course on planned ticket price increases after intense fan backlash, includingboycotts of stadium concessions and visible protests during matches.

Thousands of supporters held up yellow cards during a recent home match against Crystal Palace, displayingthe message: "Caution: Anfield's Soul at Risk." Fans also refused to purchase food and drinks at the stadiumas part of the demonstration.

The club welcomed the reversal, which will see an inflationary rise next season with prices frozen theyear following.

"We should not be conned into thinking it is normal for prices to go up each season. This is a choice LFCare making and one that is driven by greed," said fan group Spirit of Shankly when the increases wereannounced in March.

While fans acknowledged the success achieved under Fenway Sports Group — including two Premier Leaguetitles and a Champions League win — they described the price increases as "tone-deaf and worrying."

Editor's Note: Liverpool's principal owner John Henry also owns the Boston Red Sox. Last week, aprotest plane towing a banner demanding the ownership sell the team flew over Fenway Park.
