Liverpool Reverses Ticket Price Hike Plans After Fan Protests at Anfield

The Premier League champion has reversed course on ticket price increases following loud protests from supporters at Anfield Stadium.

Fan Boycott and Yellow Card Protests

Thousands of fans refused to spend money on drinks and food at the stadium as part of the protest. During the match against Crystal Palace, supporters held up yellow cards displaying the message: "Caution: Anfield's Soul at Risk."

The unrest also drew connections to other FSG-owned teams. Red Sox fans have similarly voiced anger at principal owner John Henry and Boston's chief baseball officer Craig Breslow. Last week, a banner imploring the ownership to sell the team flew over Fenway Park during batting practice.

Response to March Price Hikes

When price hikes were announced in March, fan group Spirit of Shankly said: "We should not be conned into thinking it is normal for prices to go up each season. This is a choice LFC are making and one that is driven by greed."

While fans acknowledged the success achieved under FSG — including two Premier League titles and the Champions League — they described the price increases as "tone-deaf and worrying."

New Pricing Structure

The club's reversal means there will be an inflationary rise next season, with prices frozen the following year. However, the club warned that without alternative solutions, future increases may still be required.
