Will Osula scored twice as Newcastle beat West Ham 3-1 at St James' Park on Sunday, leaving the Hammers on the brink of Premier League relegation.
Nick Woltemade opened the scoring for the Magpies before Osula's double sealed victory. Taty Castellanos scored a consolation for West Ham.
Relegation Battle
Defeat means West Ham will be relegated on Tuesday if Tottenham win at Chelsea. A draw at Stamford Bridge would effectively send them down due to their significantly inferior goal difference.
If Spurs lose, West Ham must beat Leeds at home and hope Manchester United lose to Everton to stay up.
Match Narrative
Newcastle controlled the first half with Sandro Tonali, Bruno Guimarães and Jacob Ramsey dominating midfield. Osula had the game's first real attempt in the 11th minute, shooting wide.
The Magpies took the lead after 15 minutes when Harvey Barnes intercepted goalkeeper Mads Hermansen's pass and crossed for Woltemade to score.
Within four minutes, it was 2-0 as Osula ran through on goal and fired past the advancing Hermansen.
Nuno Espirito Santo made a tactical change after 26 minutes, sending on Taty and switching from a back three to a four-man defence.
Nick Pope had to react smartly to deny Taty's first-time shot after Crysencio Summerville had raced past Kieran Trippier.
The second half followed a similar pattern with West Ham improved but struggling to break through Newcastle's defence.
Fernandes shot wide in the 57th minute before Guimarães curled inches over at the other end.
West Ham fell further behind with 25 minutes remaining when Joe Willock robbed fellow substitute Pablo and exchanged passes with Osula before crossing for the striker to score his second.
Taty's spectacular first-time finish four minutes later gave West Ham faint hope. He then clipped the crossbar but there was no way back.
