Alphonso Davies Suffers Thigh Injury in Bayern Win, Facing Another Sideline Spell

Bayern Munich announced on Wednesday that Canadian left-back Alphonso Davies tore a muscle in his thigh during the team's 6-1 victory over Atalanta on Tuesday in the first leg of their Round of 16 Champions League tie.

The 25-year-old Edmonton product came on to start the second half for Konrad Laimer, assisting on France winger Michael Olise's goal in the 64th minute. Only minutes later, Davies doubled over in pain near midfield and needed to come off himself. He made his way to the sideline under his own power, but was clearly in visible discomfort.

No recovery timeline was offered by the club. The injury is similar to a hamstring ailment that kept him out of action for the past two weeks after incurring an issue during a 3-2 win over Eintracht on Feb. 21.

Frustrating Season Continues

Tuesday's match was Davies' first appearance since the Eintracht match and was his 13th across all competitions this season. He made his season debut in December after recovering from an ACL injury incurred last spring on international duty.

Davies is in his eighth season with the Bundesliga giants since a transfer from Vancouver Whitecaps.

The injury casts doubt on the Canada captain's participation in the next international window set for the end of the month. Jesse Marsch's side is set for friendlies against Iceland and Tunisia at Toronto's BMO Field on Mar. 28 and Mar. 31 respectively.

Other Bayern Injuries

Davies wasn't the only injury Bayern was forced to contend with on Tuesday. Goalkeeper Jonas Urbig is sidelined with a concussion, while Germany forward Jamal Musiala aggravated an ankle injury he initially incurred last summer.

League Standings

Bayern sits atop the Bundesliga table on 66 points, 11 clear of second-place Borussia Dortmund. Vincent Kompany's squad returns to action on Saturday with a visit to Bayer Leverkusen.
