Jonathan David Out With Groin Injury for Juventus vs. Galatasaray

Jonathan David will miss Tuesday's Champions League playoff first leg against Galatasaray in Istanbul due to a groin injury.

The Canada forward sustained the injury ahead of the tie, according to a report from Gianluca Di Marzio. This is a significant blow to Juventus as they travel to Turkey without their first-choice striker.

The Brooklyn-born, Ottawa-raised attacker is in his first season with the Bianconeri after joining on a Bosman transfer from Lille last summer.

Season Statistics

David has five goals and four assists in 24 Serie A appearances this season. In Champions League play, he has scored two goals and provided one assist in eight matches.

He played 60 minutes in Juventus's 3-2 loss to Inter Milan on Saturday before the injury was detected.

Juventus Striker Crisis

David joins Dusan Vlahovic (adductor) and Arek Milik (calf) on the injured list. Belgium international Lois Openda, who has struggled this season, is the only recognized striker available for the trip to Turkey.

After Tuesday's match, Juventus returns to Serie A action on Saturday at home to Como before hosting Galatasaray in the second leg next Wednesday.
