Canada left-back Alphonso Davies is set for another spell on the sidelines as a frustrating season continues for Bayern Munich.
Bayern announced on Wednesday that the 25-year-old Edmonton product tore a muscle in his thigh during the team's 6-1 win over Atalanta on Tuesday in the first leg of their Champions League Round of 16 tie.
The club offered no recovery timeline, but the injury is similar to the hamstring ailment that kept him out for two weeks after incurring an issue during a 3-2 win over Eintracht on Feb. 21.
Match Details
Davies came on at halftime to start the second half for Konrad Laimer and assisted on France winger Michael Olise's goal in the 64th minute. Minutes later, he doubled over in pain near midfield and needed to come off.
Davies made his way to the sideline under his own power but was clearly in visible discomfort. Tuesday's match was his first appearance since the Eintracht match.
Season Overview
This season, Davies has made 13 appearances across all competitions. He made his season debut in December after recovering from an ACL injury incurred last spring on international duty with Canada.
This is his eighth season with the Bundesliga giants since transferring from Vancouver Whitecaps.
International Window in Doubt
The injury casts doubt on the Canada captain's participation in the next international window at the end of the month. Jesse Marsch's side is set for friendlies against Iceland and Tunisia at Toronto's BMO Field on Mar. 28 and Mar. 31 respectively.
Team News
Davies wasn't the only injury Bayern had to contend with on Tuesday. Goalkeeper Jonas Urbig is sidelined with a concussion, while Germany forward Jamal Musiala aggravated an ankle injury he initially incurred last summer.
Bundesliga Standings
Bayern sits atop the Bundesliga table on 66 points, 11 clear of second-place Borussia Dortmund. Vincent Kompany's squad returns to action on Saturday with a visit to Bayer Leverkusen.
