Youri Tielemans Ankle Injury Sidelines Aston Villa Midfielder for 8-10 Weeks
Aston Villa's injury-ravaged midfield has taken another hit. Manager Unai Emery announced Wednesday that Youri Tielemans will be out for up to 10 weeks with an ankle injury.
The Belgium international picked up the knock during the team's 2-0 win over the weekend against Newcastle and joins Boubacar Kamara (knee) and captain John McGinn (knee) on the shelf.
Emery Provides Injury Updates
"Tielemans is eight to 10 weeks out," said Emery ahead of the team's Europa League date with RB Salzburg on Thursday. "Kamara is not going to play this season. McGinn is six to eight weeks out. After those updates on those players, we need to manage the centre midfield in the matches we are going to play."
Tielemans, 28, has appeared in 22 matches across all competitions, scoring once.
Potential Reinforcements
Help could be on the way. The team is finalizing a loan with Juventus for their former player, Brazil midfielder Douglas Luiz. The 27-year-old Luiz has been on loan at Nottingham Forest this season.
New Signing
Villa completed a signing on Tuesday with the arrival of England striker Tammy Abraham from Besiktas for £18 million. The South London native spent 2018-2019 on loan at Villa Park from Chelsea, scoring 25 Championship goals.
League Standings
Villa currently sit second in the Europa League table on 18 points, level with leaders Lyon, and have already assured themselves of a bye into the Round of 16.
At home, Emery's side sits third in the Premier League table, four points back of leaders Arsenal. They next see action on Sunday with a visit from eighth-place Brentford.
